Osea is something special, an exclusive private island retreat situated on the Blackwater at the base of the Thames Estuary conveniently close to central London. Approached by a causeway built in roman times it is accessible by car at low tide, 4 hours in every 12, there is also a river taxi (extra charges). Surrounded by four miles of beaches and coastline, this beautiful island is a marine sanctuary for an abundant variety of wildlife and rare birds. With its 350 acres of countryside it offers peace, tranquility and privacy away from the hustle and bustle. This cluster of cottages, two of which are listed buildings each having its own individual sitting area, evolve around the village which dates back to the 16th century and is at the centre of the island. Osea provides beautifully appointed cottages finished to a very good standard, designed to make your stay a truly unique experience. It has the added benefits of an outdoor heated swimming pool, games room, viewing room, gym, sauna and tennis court. The owner can arrange a variety of activities as well as a chef to prepare meals for you (full details on request). If visitors can tear themselves away from the comfort of the cottages a wide variety of attractions invite exploration, The picturesque town of Maldon 5 miles with its pretty quay and quaint shops, Colchester Zoo and castle, constable country, Mersea island famous for its fish and oysters and Southend for family fun are within an easy drive. Pub and shop on the mainland 3 miles.

While much of the southern part of Essex is highly-developed, the north and east of the county boast countryside and seascape that rival the best in England. A break in one of our holiday cottages in Essex is the perfect opportunity to enjoy all that this county has to offer.
The coastline is largely unspoilt, an intriguing combination of estuaries, saltmarshes and mudflats and a haven for a wide variety of wildlife. Yachting is a major attraction at both Brightlingsea and Burnham-on-Crouch, while there’s plenty of fun for the family at Southend (with its famous pier), Clacton and Walton-on-the-Naze – all easily reached from our holiday cottages in Essex.
Explore Constable country, centred on Dedham and the River Stour, where you’ll see scenes that inspired the famous painter’s best-loved works, virtually unchanged from Constable’s time. History also comes alive at Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, noted for its Roman remains and its castle, as well as a fascinating zoo and great shopping. The pretty town of Saffron Walden is well worth a visit, as is nearby Audley End, a magnificent stately home that was once the largest house in the whole of England. Closer to London, Epping Forest is great for walking, while Waltham Abbey makes a great day trip.
